A slow, intentional practice
Assembling meaning from fragments — balancing instinct and precision.
I’m Seju, a mosaic artist based in Antwerp, originally from India. My journey with mosaic began in 2012, after years of living in Belgium and exploring different creative paths. I had initially planned to study oil painting but the first time I encountered mosaic, I felt a quiet certainty: this was my medium.
I went on to complete both a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Mosaic at the Academie Wilrijk in Antwerp, where I immersed myself in the technical and expressive potential of the form. Since then, I’ve continued to create original mosaic pieces, take on custom orders, and teach both one-on-one and group workshops for students of all ages.
My work blends traditional craftsmanship with personal emotion. I hand-cut every piece made of glass, smalti, marble, ceramic, and reclaimed materials. With placing each piece with close attention to color, texture, and flow. I often work intuitively, allowing each mosaic to unfold from an inner feeling, memory, or energy, rather than following a fixed plan.
My Indian background naturally finds its way into my work. Some pieces are rooted in cultural symbolism, while others are abstract and open-ended, offering space for each viewer’s own interpretation.
For me, mosaic is a slow, intentional practice that has a balance between instinct and precision. It’s a way of listening, of assembling something meaningful from separate parts. Each piece I create is built on patience, curiosity, and deep respect for the materials I work with.
“Each fragment has its own voice; the artwork is how they sing together.”
